(BlockBar) Steve Forbes is the president and CEO of Forbes Group and editor-in-chief of Forbes Magazine. At present, his personal assets have exceeded 440 million US dollar. He was named “the most accurate financial journalist in economic forecasting” by USX for four time. Early this week, he publicized an open letter to Mark Zuckerberg. In this letter, he encourages Facebook’s encryption program and emphasizes that Libra will become one of the world’s greatest inventions. It is assumed that this project will ultimately be possible to “replace the dollar and become the global currency”. He believes that if Libra wants to be a truly pioneering invention in the course of history, the prerequisite is that it must be supported by gold.
Facebook currently plans to support the encrypted currency with basket(A basket refers to the compilation of currencies of several major trading countries into a comprehensive monetary index according to the proportion of current trade.) Forbes explained that gold was best suited for Libra’s mission to provide “truly stable encrypted currency”.
“For various reasons, gold retains its intrinsic value better than anything else. It means that Libra will have values that other currencies do not have today, that is, fixed values. According to Forbes, Libra’s “fixed value” will make it “the best trading medium in the world” because it can be used for day-to-day trading and long-term investment.
Forbes said that although supporting Libra with gold might elicit opposition from consultants. But he still thinks it is “actually an advantage” because it will prevent “well-capitalized imitators”.
At the end of the letter, Forbes also urged Zuckerberg to consider changing Libra’s name to “Mark”. He believed that “Libra” had bad luck in history mainly because it was the weight unit of the collapsed Roman Empire. Forbes also recommended the use of the German Mark, which was replaced by the euro 20 years ago.
